Hiking and Walking Rules The Park has a sidewalk around Robert E. Lee Boulevard. State law requires all pedestrians to use a sidewalk if provided. We also have a pedestrian lane from the Grist Mill to Confederate Hall on the backside of the mountain. Visitors are prohibited from hiking in restricted areas of Stone Mountain Park. Visitors are prohibited from removing, injuring, or defacing, any flower, plant, tree, shrub, rock or wildlife. Bicycles and powered vehicles are prohibited on park trails. Camping or staying overnight on trails is prohibited. Fires of any kind are prohibited on trails.
Safety Tips Never walk alone, especially at night. Having someone with you helps prevent problems. Always carry a cell phone with the Park Emergency Telephone Number programmed (770.413.5333). Emergency Call Boxes are located throughout the Park. Always walk with your head up and be aware of what is going on around you. Always report suspicious activity or persons to the Park Police. Always carry a flashlight after dark. Always carry plenty of fluids (water, sports drinks). Never carry or flash large sums of money or wear expensive jewelry. Lock your valuables in your trunk before you arrive at the Park and keep your keys with you while walking. Always let a family member or friend know where you are going and how long you expect to be there. Visitors with heart, back, respiratory, or other limiting medical conditions should not attempt to use trails. The trails are sometimes steep with uneven terrain and are extremely slippery when wet. Visitors should always wear proper footwear. Loud noises such as radios and horns are prohibited.
At Stone Mountain Park dogs are welcome on hiking trails, excluding the walk up trail to the top and the Songbird Habitat Trails. They must be on a 6 foot leash! You can enjoy your dog off leash at the Stone Mountain Village dog park located between 3rd and 4th Streets. In an effort to reduce stream bank erosion and bacterial contamination, please keep your dog out of the creeks in the Park.
