  September

Look on and around Stone Mountain for Stone Mountain Yellow Daisies! You may also see the silvery, hard to notice flowers of Mountain Mint in select areas. Dayflower is still blooming on the mountain outcrops and forest edges too! Cardinal Flower and Jewelweed are flowering in wet woodland areas. Look for ripe Muscadines and colorful fungus and mushrooms along the woodland trails.

Toward the end of the month most of the outcrops and mountain are covered with wilted daisies and brown grasses and mosses. Rock Aster, a threatened species in Georgia, may still be flourishing on several outcrops along the base of the mountain. Look for Pineweed and Rock Pink blooms still as well.

Look out for different species of birds- the beginning of fall migration is expected at the end of the month!

For fall flowers visit the walk-up trail- Yellow Daisies and Blazing Star continue to bloom. Look for flocks of Goldfinches along the Walk-up Trail, feeding on seeds of the yellow daisies. Also check out the Songbird Habitat where many field wildflowers are blooming, including Goldenrod, Ragweed, Fireweed, and Partridge Pea.
