Explore our educational, open air quarry display with your students! This display is located at the site of a former granite quarry. Students can learn the history of quarrying, see tools that were used and examine blocks used for building.
To schedule: Please call 770-498-5620 to schedule your group at the quarry display. We frequently conduct programs here and need to coordinate around your school. The entire display is outside; please plan accordingly because there is limited shelter available. We have scavenger hunts prepared for 3rd and 8th grades. Please click on the appropriate link below and print copies for your students. You will need to bring pencils with you. Two classes, or 50 students total, can use the exhibit at one time. If you are bringing more than 50 students, we will discuss ways to prepare a rotation of students through the exhibit.
Once scheduled: Once you schedule, we will send you a confirmation sheet, directions to the quarry display, a few quarry display brochures and a map of the park. Groups usually choose to eat at the pavilions and picnic tables located across the street from the quarry display.
Policies: We ask that you please bring 1 chaperone for every 10 students. Make the chaperones aware of the program and their responsibilities. Chaperones should either be positioned around the exhibit or lead small groups of students through the exhibit. Please remind students to walk, look and read while at the quarry display. Please stay within the exhibit area; visitors need special permission to hike on the mountain in this area.
