Stone Mountain Park is protected by the Stone Mountain Park Department of Public Safety, which provides Police, Fire, Medical, and Rescue services to between 4 and 5 million guests and employees annually. The SMPDPS is staffed by 77 full and part-time employees.

SMPDPS is a state-certified law enforcement agency of medium size. All officers are fully trained and Georgia P.O.S.T.-certified, with authority and powers of arrest granted by Section 12-3-194.1 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated.

We handle between 5 and 6 thousand calls for service each year. The Department possesses state-of the-art equipment, ranging from new fire, rescue and police vehicles, to thermal imagers, night vision and threat detection electronics. Emergency Call Boxes are spread throughout the Park, and all officers have immediate access to AED heart defibrillators. All officers are trained in CPR, AED and Basic First Aid. Medical Responders are Certified EMTs as well as Firefighters. There is extensive video surveillance throughout the Park.

The Department maintains an Aviation Unit, High-Angle Rescue Team, Dive Rescue Team, and Lake Patrol, as well as a presence on top of the Mountain.
