Stone Mountain Park Turns 50!
The following is a listing of the special, free public events lined up for every Saturday and Sunday in April, 2008.
Registration is required. Stop by Confederate Hall Historical and Environmental Education Center located just inside the Park’s West Gate or call 770-498-5658.
Programs are free, but you must pay the $8 daily parking fee at the entrance gate, unless you have an annual parking permit. Programs are limited to 25 participants. Programs occur in various locations around the Park. All programs will take place out of doors, so wear suitable clothing and appropriate footwear. Bring a water bottle.
Saturday, April 26Arbor Day Activities 9 am – noon Hands-on, tree related children’s activities in Confederate Hall. No limit on participation, bring everyone!
Tree ID Hike 1 – 2:30 pm Join a Forester from the Georgia Forestry Commission for an informative walk through Stone Mountain’s old growth tree forest and learn how to identify our leafy friends. Meet at the Nature Garden Parking Lot. Not suitable for young children.
Sunday, April 27Wonderful Wetlands 1 – 2:30 pm Did you know we have resident Stone Mountain beavers? Visit a seldom seen area of the park as you learn about the value and conservation of the wetlands, and their interesting furry residents. Meet at Events Parking Lot, near Stone Mountain Park Police Station.
Plants of the Granite Outcrops 1 – 4 pm Discover the mountain’s diverse and unique plant life as you hike to the top of the mountain with botanist Jim Allison. Meet at the Walk up trail, behind Confederate Hall. Not suitable for young children.
