Classroom Pre-Trip Activity Classroom Post-Trip Activity Stone Mountain Geology 1 Hour Science GPS: SKCS1(a), SKCS4(b,c), SKE2(a,c) As Stone Mountain Geologists, students discover earth materials on the mountain and explore the effects of weathering on the surface. First Grade Stone Mountain Animals 1.5 Hours Science GPS: S1CS7(a,b), S1L1(b,d) Students get up close and personal with an animal and learn about animals living on Stone Mountain through a series of outdoor games. Classroom Pre-Trip Activity Pre-Trip Activity add on Classroom Post-Trip Activity Stone Mountain Plants 1.5 Hours Science GPS: S1CS7(a,b), S1L1(a,c) Through a series of outdoor games on Stone Mountain, students will be introduced to the unique plant life of rock outcrops and the conditions which limit plant growth. Classroom Pre-Trip Activity Classroom Post-Trip Activity Mountain Meteorology 1.5 Hours Science GPS: S1CS3(a,c), S1CS6(b,d), SICS7(a,b), S1E1(a,b,c) Students become Mountain Meteorologists and venture out to measure weather conditions on different areas of the mountain. Students then prepare a TV-style weather segment and report on current weather and predictions. Classroom Pre-Trip Activity Classroom Post-Trip Activity Second Grade Stone Mountain Animal Life Cycles 1.5 Hours Science GPS: S2CS1(a), S2CS4(b,c), S2CS5(a), S2L1(a) Students are introduced to the life cycles of the monarch butterfly and common animals living at Stone Mountain and head out on the mountain to explore their habitat. Classroom Pre-Trip Activity Classroom Post-Trip Activity Into the Wild 1.5 Hours Science GPS: S2CS1(a), S2CS4(b), S2CS5(b), S2E3(a) Students explore an abandoned area of Stone Mountain Park and discover what changes weather, plants, animals and people have made. Classroom Pre-Trip Activity (Part A, at your discretion) Classroom Post-Trip Activity Uncovering American Indian Culture 1.5 Hours Social Studies GPS: SS2H2(a,b), SS2G2(b,c) Students excavate a fabricated archeological site and uncover clues and artifacts about the Creek and Cherokee Indians.
