The GPS relevant for the program are linked below. Forms for teachers, information for chaperones and frequently asked questions can be found under the education: printable resources section. Private and public school buses are admitted to Stone Mountain Park for free! Please contact Brian McKnight: 770-498-5620 Email: Stone Mountain Education Programs
High School Service Learning Program 3 Hours Science GPS: SCSh1, SCSh2, SEV2, SEV3, SEV5, SB4 Students learn about the importance of biodiversity and develop a feeling of ownership of Stone Mountain Park by working to restore a native plant garden. The program is designed to improve the environment and educate students and the public about invasive plants. On the day of the field trip, students travel to the Nature Garden Trails in Stone Mountain Park. Students learn about the forest ecosystem during a 45 minute forest hike. This knowledge is used to identify and remove invasive plants from a selected site, then replant the area with native plants. Finally, students place plant labels and mark their plants to alert Park visitors to the project’s purpose. All tools and materials are provided. School must provide water, snacks and transportation to the Park. Pre-Trip Activity Post-Trip Activity
Information about other Stone Mountain Park field trip opportunities can be found at the Stone Mountain Park attractions site. For lunch and park souvenirs, please visit the attractions area at Memorial Hall and the Skylift! You can schedule group reservations for park attractions by calling Park Sales at 770-498-5636. We will be happy to work with you and help you to design and schedule a full day at the park, combining an outdoor field trip experience and a visit to one of the park attractions!
Please remind your students to wear appropriate shoes and to bring water and a snack! |
