Confederate Hall Historical and Environmental Education Center educates park guests and local students about the fascinating geology and ecology of Stone Mountain. The building has been open to park guests since March 22, 2004. The facility houses interactive science exhibits, a small theatre showing a historical documentary about the Civil War in Georgia and offices for the SMMA education and administrative staff. It can be visited at no cost other than the $8 Stone Mountain Park one-day vehicle entry fee. Confederate Hall is located at the bottom of the walk-up trail right inside the park's west gate. Operating hours September 2007 - June 2008 are: Monday - Friday 9-5, Saturday 10-5 and Sunday 12-5. Beginning June 1, 2008, operating hours will be Monday - Saturday 10-6, and Sunday 12-6. Theater Educational Documentary
"The Battle for Georgia - a History of The Civil War in Georgia” is a 24 Minute educational documentary commissioned by SMMA and produced by Stone Mountain Productions, Inc. The award winning film is narrated by Hal Holbrook and features hundreds of archival photographic images from the Civil War. Battle reenactment footage and a spectacular bluegrass soundtrack compliment the script originally created for the current exhibit. It can be viewed every half hour in Confederate Hall.
