As leaves begin to bud and flowers to bloom, the arrival of Srping triggers a change in the scenery. Perrenial plants, once dormant, emerge from the ground due to the increase in daylight. Some of the early bloomers that can be fournd growing in the depression pits are Hairy Groundsel, Bluets, and Dwarf Danelions. Yellow Jessamine, a climbing vine, can be seen clinging to shrubs and trees on mountain edges and forest. Pool Sprite, a federally listed threatened speices, blooms it diminuative flower from the pools that form at the top of the mountain. Take a camera on your hike up Stone Mountain and capture some of the specialized outcrop species doing their thing.
