June

The longer days of the year occur in June, the longest being the first day of summer, known as solstice. Although not in abundance as once seen in Spring, plants yet persist and continue to bloom on and around Stone Mountain while moving into hotter and drier parts of the year. Prickly Pear Cacti and Yucas are ending their blooming phase while Trumpet Creeper begins its from the trees the vine uses for support. The brilliant yellow blooms of St. John's Wort can be seen on the outcrop edges and the fragile blue petals of the Dayflower (which melt away each day due to enzymes within the plant) can be seen while walking to the summit of the mountain.
