Nature Garden signThis page has been designed to help our visitors discover the natural wonders of Stone Mountain Park!

There are several different (and unique) environments within Stone Mountain Park. Exploring these will reveal the diverse number of plants and animals that inhabit the park. Begin your exploration at Confederate Hall Historical and Environmental Education Center geology and ecology musum. Over two-thirds of the park has been designated the “Natural District” by the Stone Mountain Memorial Association. The Natural District includes pristine woodlands, streams, lakes, granite outcrops and the mountain itself. In this area, we have worked hard over the past 6 years to remove invasive plants.

The Harold Cox Nature Garden will introduce visitors to a variety of native plants, trees and flowering shrubs. The Songbird Habitat will introduce visitors to a variety of birds found in the park.

The Cherokee Trail is a 5 mile historic trail which explores much of the Natural District around the base of Stone Mountain. It was designated a National Recreation Trail in 1971 (Stone Mountain Historic Trail). Find information on National Recreation Trails at http://tutsan.forest.net/trails/default.htm.
