Free Public Programs and workdays

All programs are free, but vehicles entering the Park must either pay the parking                                                          fee or display a yearly pass.

Rock and Mineral Day     Monday, September 6, 2010 12 noon—4 pm          

Join us for rock crafts, experiments, fossils and mineral displays. In Confederate Hall Lobby. All ages.

 

Invasive plant removal workday

Saturday, September 11, 2010               10:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon                                              Meet at Confederate Hall                                                                                                                              Our focus will be the removal of invasive plants on the mountain so dress appropriately, bring a water bottle and gloves.  Small tools will be available. Fall Wildflowers & Early Fall Foliage at Stone Mountain Hike

Saturday, September 18       9 am—11 am

Meet at Confederate Hall. Join the Georgia Native Plant Society for a 5 mile guided hike around the mountain and back to Confederate Hall along the Cherokee Trail. See Stone Mountain daisies, asters, coreopsis and other fall blooming plants as well as some early fall color on various trees. Wear walking shoes, bring water and a snack. Please register by calling 770.498.5658. Adults and children 10 and older.

 Guided Hike of the Songbird Habitat      

Saturday, October 23 10 am—12 pm

Meet at the Songbird Habitat. Join the Georgia Native Plant Society for a guided hike and learn more about the inter-connected world of grasses, plants and birds.  See the progress made by Stone Mountain in the all native restoration of the  former Olympic Velodrome venue. Wear walking shoes, bring water. Please register by calling 770.498.5658. Adults and children 10 and older.
